Christmas has been and gone and 2019 is rapidly approaching, and you know what that means don’t you? As wonderful, glittery and booze-filled as the New Year is, many of us find ourselves bound by the curse of dreaded New Year’s Resolutions. ‘New Year, New Me!’ will be on the lips of anyone who’s anyone, but why should we have to overhaul our lives to make the next year ‘better’?
Here at Love You Burlesque HQ, we don’t like to focus on New Year’s Resolutions as a way of pressuring ourselves into unrealistic goals, so simply, here are five ways that you can sparkle in 2019.
Find something you love, and stick with it
Finding a pastime that you enjoy is one of the best things that you can do for yourself in 2019. Whether it’s crafting, fitness, baking, something adventurous or even taking up burlesque classes – wink wink – filling your time with things that you have fun doing are some of the best ways to make yourself smile. And you don’t even have to be good at them to have fun!
Make time for YOU
Our busy schedules rarely allow us to relish in the luxury of ‘me time’. Whilst many of us have work, families and busy social lives to contend with, we should always try to find time for ourselves. Taking a break from the daily grind and spending some one-on-one time reconnecting with yourself will enlighten you to what your needs are, where you might be running yourself down and where the goodness currently exists in your life.
Don’t be hard on yourself
2018 seems to have been tough on everyone, and that’s without the added pressure we put on ourselves. Whether we chastise ourselves for not meeting our goals, or simply if we feel bad for not making it out of bed before midday, don’t be too hard on yourself. We have so many other pressures in life that the last thing we need is to get on our own case about something!
Learn that it’s okay to say no
Here at LYB HQ, we want you to know that it is okay to say no! If you don’t want to hang out, say no. If you don’t want to stay in, say no. If you don’t want to attend that event, say no. If you don’t want to… you get the picture. It’s important that we find our voices and learn that we don’t have to be agreeable and say yes all the time to things that we don’t want to do!
Surround yourself with things & people that you love
Never underestimate the power of surrounding yourself with the things and people that you love. 2018 has been a hell of a year for many of us, and as we wave goodbye, we can head into 2019 knowing that we have the love and support of family, friends and loved ones.
